AND&AND MEDIA ARTS EXCHANGE
TWO ARTISTS. TWO WEEKS. ONE GLOBAL COMMUNITY.
An international media arts residency connecting artists from UNESCO Creative Cities
Our residency centers on cultural exchange, professional growth, and meaningful personal connection.
We’re looking for tech-based artists from UNESCO Cities of Media Arts who are curious about new cultural contexts, eager to connect with other media art communities, and excited to be part of a growing global creative network.
This residency is a chance to dive into Austin’s media arts scene and thoughtfully weave your practice into the rhythm of the city.
Our team and collaborators are here to support you every step of the way—with local insights, conversations, and space to explore, reflect, and connect across borders.
-
UNESCO Cities of Media Arts are part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), a global initiative launched in 2004 to support cities that see creativity as a key driver of sustainable urban development.
Over 350 cities worldwide collaborate to place culture and the creative industries at the heart of their local strategies while actively engaging with one another internationally.
-
The residency takes place in Austin, Texas—an official UNESCO City of Media Arts known for its thriving creative tech scene, experimental art spaces, and vibrant cultural life.
Residents are based at And&And Studios, a community-focused space in East Austin that supports artists working at the intersection of technology, public engagement, and social practice.
-
The residency is open to media artists, curators, technologists, and creative professionals from UNESCO Creative Cities of Media Arts.
We welcome applicants working in digital, bio, robotic, sound, and interactive art, as well as some performance and film.
-
We accept applications on a rolling basis. To receive the application form and updates about upcoming residency dates, please fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page. We’ll follow up with more details and next steps.
-
Residents receive live/work space, partial meals, and curated introductions to Austin’s creative and tech communities.
They’ll also have access to local events and the option to share their practice through talks or informal conversations.
-
This is not a production-focused residency. Artists are encouraged to immerse themselves in Austin, engage with local media art communities, and use the time to exchange ideas, explore new cultural contexts, and build lasting connections.
-
We host two residencies each year—one in spring and one in winter—lasting 2 to 4 weeks.
These sessions align with major Austin cultural events, such as the Fusebox Festival and the Austin Studio Tour.
-
Yes. We want to grow a global alumni network connecting past residents across 24 countries, offering continued dialogue, peer support, and opportunities to participate in future group exhibitions in Austin.
